Gates of Olympus Super Scatter: story and setting

The setting is the original’s temple gate on Olympus, with Zeus handing out multipliers. Pragmatic’s launch release calls it a special edition of the award-winning original. The release places it after the first game and Gates of Olympus 1000.

One change matters. If one, two, three or four Super Scatters land on the spin that triggers the bonus, they pay 100x, 500x, 5,000x or 50,000x instantly. Four of them is the max win. The same device later spread to Super Scatter editions of Sweet Bonanza, Starlight Princess and Sugar Rush.

How it plays, summarised from the studio’s description

Pay anywhere
8 to 30 matching symbols anywhere on the grid win, and tumbles can chain further wins.
Multipliers 2x to 500x
They can land on any spin or tumble in the base game or bonus; values on one spin are added and applied to the total win.
15 free spins
Triggered by four or more scatters and retriggerable. Multipliers that land on a winning spin join a running total applied to that win.
Super Scatters
One to four of them on the triggering spin pay 100x, 500x, 5,000x or 50,000x instantly.
Two bonus buys
Available in select markets only. Per the launch release, multipliers start at 10x in Super Free Spins.

RTP differs by 0.06 points across modes and buys. What changes is how much each decision costs, and so how much a single decision can lose. Against the base bet, every mode caps at 50,000x, so raising the cost per spin with an ante lowers the cap relative to what you pay. A thousand base spins (KRW 1,000,000 staked) carry an expected loss of KRW 35,000.

The chance of each event and the expected loss over 100, 1,000 and 10,000 spins of Gates of Olympus Super Scatter

Even over 10,000 spins (about 2.8 hours at one spin a second) the chance of landing the max win even once is 0.0015%, while the expected loss over that stretch is KRW 350,000.

Worked out from the studio’s published average frequencies as 1 − (1 − 1/frequency)^spins. It treats spins as independent; real sessions swing widely around these figures.

Reading the numbers

  • The ante (1.5x per spin) returns 96.55% on the server, 0.05 points above base. Even so, the expected loss per spin at a KRW 1,000 base bet grows from KRW 35 to KRW 51.75. The rate improves slightly, but the stake grows by half.
  • A max-win frequency of 1 in 666,666,667 works out to about once in 21 years at one spin per second, nonstop. That is roughly 956 times rarer than the original’s 1 in 697,350.
  • The symbol paytable and scatter pays are the original’s: 3x for 4 scatters, 5x for 5, 100x for 6 or more. What changed is the Super Scatter prizes, the max win, the ante cost (1.25x → 1.5x) and the number of buy options (one → two).
  • Starlight Princess Super Scatter returns exactly the same server figures: four RTP modes, a 50,000x cap, 1 in 666,666,667 and a 1.5x ante. The two originals share their maths, and so do their Super Scatter editions.
