Fire in the Hole 3: story and setting
It gets cold in the mines, and nothing but whiskey helps. Returning after a long absence, you find the entrance to the dwarf’s mine frozen shut. Distant explosions echo inside, along with a strong smell of whiskey. Maybe it’s the whiskey, but there seem to be two dwarfs down there. That is how the studio opens the third game.
Those two dwarfs drive the bonus. The Persistent Dwarf collects values, and the Evil Dwarf sets the coins off again. In the base game you dig down through the mine with features buried in ice and xBomb explosions.
How it plays, summarised from the studio’s description
- Collapsing mine
- Each spin starts with three active rows. A win, an xBomb explosion, Wild Mining or xHole triggers a collapse, and each collapse opens one more row, up to six.
- xBomb Wild
- Substitutes for everything except Bonus symbols. When it explodes it clears adjacent symbols and raises the win multiplier for the next collapse by its value.
- Wild Mining
- On a losing base-game spin, 3 to 6 symbols of a kind lined up horizontally or vertically create one to four Wilds.
- Buried features
- Ice blocks can hide Wilds, xSplit, multipliers (2x to 100x), xHole, Bonus symbols or a 2×2 Max symbol. Clear all the ice off a Max symbol and the max win is paid on the spot.
- Lucky Wagon Spins
- Three, four or five Bonus symbols start the feature with 2, 3 or 4 rows open and 3 spins, which reset to 3 whenever a coin lands. Six Bonus symbols guarantee a Persistent Dwarf on the first spin.
- Gamble
- A base-game win of 5x or more can be gambled for a level of Lucky Wagon Spins. A button switches the option on or off.
- Fire In The Bowl
- Reaching 70,000x clears out the mine and ends the round.

Reading the numbers
- Its max-win odds of 1 in 14,300,000 are the best of the four Nolimit City games in this library, and the 70,000x cap is second only to Brute Force’s 80,000x.
- A 22.18% hit rate is the highest of the four, and the bonus comes about once in 231 spins, second only to Tombstone Begins (216).
- Golden Nugget (7,000x) guarantees a Max symbol in ice, not the max win itself. At a KRW 1,000 stake it costs KRW 7 million.
- The base game supplies 63.00 points of RTP, the second-largest base share after Tombstone Begins (64.15).
